I apologize for the blurriness, I was trying to get the shot as I was getting off the bus. If you live in Ottawa, you know how hard it is to not fall on you face on any moving bus, let alone take a decent picture.

Basically, it’s an ad for moderate gambling, that uses what looks like a box of condoms to illustrate that you should take precautions when  gambling. Nothing wrong with that.

However, I’m puzzled by the sentence in smaller characters at the bottom of the ad.

If you can’t read this, it says: “Take our quiz online for a chance at a home entertainment system”.

Really? Am I the only one who thinks that the message is somewhat less credible if you offer a chance of winning something on a website that promotes moderation when gambling? Call me crazy, but I’m expecting to read that the whole website was just setup to phish information from gamblers hoping to get a free entertainment system.

*I do enjoy rolling dice, but that has everything to do with killing monsters and nothing to do with losing money.

January 2nd: Breakfast

On January 2nd I posted this picture and said that I thought my son might be the next Hugh Hefner. My son is awesomely weird, and he never ceases to to amaze me.

My son is the kind of kid that excels at academics, sports and arts. He’s the weird kid that would normally get  beaten up in the school yard because he wears a shirt and tie to go to school (he doesn’t have to), but because he was in 3rd grade and better at soccer then the 6th grade kids all the jocks like him so nobody beat him up.

Or you know, the day he told me he’d like to play the harp because it looks cool. I managed to negotiate with him and he agreed to choose a more portable (and less expensive) instrument, so he decided he wanted an ocarina instead. So now he  plays all the Zelda songs on his ocarina.

He paints. He’s great with Devil sticks and a Diabolo. He plays guitar. He’s great at video games. He loves reading. He’s sensitive. He runs really fast. He skates. He’s computer-literate. He plays Kinball.

He’s also his own man, and his not influenced by what his friends do. When he told us he wanted to be part of the snowboarding after school activity, we asked him if his friends were also going and he said he didn’t know, but he wanted to go.

He’s truly a Renaissance Kid, and I can’t wait to see what he will come up with next.

Last month I did the photo-a-day thing to get me back in the swing of blogging. I figured that was better than a long rambling post about why I’m (again) not blogging. We all hate those posts, right?

So I think I’m back. I have a lot of ideas about stuff I want to write about. Wait, does that sentence even make sense? Anyways.

When I looked at the photo-a-day challenge, my first idea was to come up with a significant story about each of the pictures, just like I did for the something you adore entry (Yes, I wrote that entry first). Of course, life and other stuff got in the way, and soon enough I was just posting pictures with a three-word caption, and sometimes without a caption. I even reused a picture twice during the month.

Good intentions and all that jazz, you know.

So we’ll see how this goes.

Marc, J-F & Me

My guilty pleasure is not “guys”. It’s looking for people I have not seen in ages online… and finding them!

In this picture (taken last Thursday), I’m having beers with Marc and J-F. Both J-F and I had not seen Marc in 24 years – and it turns out that he lives about 15 minutes away from my place. I found Marc through LinkedIn.

A couple of years ago, I found J-F on Facebook. I had not seen him in 22 years, and he literally lives less than 2 miles from my house, and had been living there for the past 10 years. We spent 10 years going to the same grocery store, the same movie theater, the same pubs without ever meeting up.
