You’ve seen this right?
Not being an Apple Whore like my buddy Dave2, I was really surprised about how excited I got about this mysterious iTablet iSlate iPad thingy before it got unveiled. I even told myself:
I’ll get one when it becomes available in Canada – Just for kicks. Heck, the last time I did something even remotely like that was when I stood in line 30+ hours to see the first showing of the Phantom Menace.
Alas, the more I followed the keynote, the less enthused I became about the giant iTouch.
Now, I’m just meh about it. I mean, I already have a laptop and an iPhone, and I can’t see myself carrying this thing on the bus or even in a pocket when I’m out for a walk.
What about you? What do you think?

I like that. iMeh. That’s me. The only iThing I have is an iPod.

I will be interested in this down the road, when the price comes down and they put some magazine capability into it. I’ve been considering a Kindle but am not ready yet. This would be an excellent alternative (more functionality) if I can read magazines on it as well as books.
I’m on the fence right now.

I think your reaction is not surprising. If you already have a laptop and an iPhone… it wasn’t made for you!

If it came with a camera, I would get one. That way I could chat with friends without having to set up my laptop.

that’s Ok, LeSombre, you can still buy one, just ship it to me
I have a laptop and an itouch so apparently I am in the group of people not interested in it, but nope, sorry, I want one. And I am not a gadget whore either.

a 10-inch device that’s instant on and runs most iPhone apps, plus adding a version of iWork and the ability to use a bluetooth keyboard? 60 days is too long to wait for me.
I’ll see your iMeh and raise you an iYeah

I think it looks cool, coming from someone without an iPhone. But I’m not gonna rush out and get it, because… I don’t care that much.
I’m with Marty. Though I have yet to figure out exactly when I’ll use it.
I often use my iPhone when walking, but I doubt I’ll use the iPad that way.
If I stop for breakfast or lunch alone, I typically watch a portion of a movie on my iPhone; I don’t think I’d bring the iPad into the restaurant (fast food) for that, though it’s a possibility.
At a stoplight? iPhone. Standing in line? iPhone. Waiting somewhere to pick up my kids? Maybe iPad.
Home? MacBook Pro.
Airplane? iPad.
I wonder if there will be a significant iPhone upgrade by this summer. That could make a difference in whether or not I actually get an iPad. Of course, they probably won’t announce anything like that until after the 3G iPad is out. C’est la vie.

@Robin: I’d like to get a MacBook pro. Drool.
@Finn: I would mainly use it on a plane. I don’t travel that much. I’m also on the fence. We’ll see.
@Dave2: I agree. I also agree with you camera/microphone comment. It would be much more interesting with those capabilities. Maybe in the next version? I can totally see my kids use that at home all the time. Does it work with AppleTV?
@Avitable: Yup. Plus, you’re already used to holding something 10″ long when you video chat, right?
@BPR: I’ll put it in the same box with the espresso machine. Send me your home address.
@MartyMankins: Hey, when you get it, let me know what you use it for.
@Sybil Law: Yup.
@Ren: Like you say, c’est la vie. I could totally see applications for this in hospitals as charts and stuff. But a 1,000$ device to use only on a plane is a little expensive. But it would make an awesome digital frame for my office.
I’m totally getting one for the combination of connectivity and the e-reading experience. The entertainment value of being able read, watch a movie, listen to music, AND be able to browse the web is just too tempting, especially with the price plan for the 3G service. As for Kindle, well there is always the Kindle App for that!

I don’t even have a freakin’ iPod.
Hell, I’ve never even owned a discman!
$1,000?? Do you know how many REAL books I could buy with that much money?

After reading all the commentary regarding the iPad it has become even more clear that I’m not the target market for this. Laptop? Check. iPhone? Check. Don’t need a third device. But it is certainly interesting for those who *are* in the market for it. Be interesting to see how far Apple carry this idea and what features/hardware an iPad 2.0 has.
