This post is part of the Year of the Purge : A to Z series. Every other Sunday, I’ll get rid of something starting with the letter A and working my way to the letter Z by the end of December. This week I’m getting rid of N.
Okay, when wrote the last tYotP post, I was in way over my head with Mafia Wars and wrote that I was going to stop playing. Well, that didn’t really work. After a few days I sorta missed it a bit, and then I thought “It’s a free game, it keeps me entertained and it’s not hurting anything other than my productivity”. So I re-started playing again, and I’ve been playing ever since. I joked I was going to make this post get rid of “not playing Mafia Wars”, but I won’t. I’ll continue playing in moderation, when I have absolutely nothing else to do.
Which brings me to this week’s post. Looking back on the first 13 tYotP posts (hey, that’s half!) I noticed a trend: Except for the few humor posts in this series, I noticed I deny myself a lot of stuff for no apparent reason. So, armed with that knowledge and inspired by these people and particularly this man, I’m switching things up a bit. This week I’m getting rid of…
Not
- Not doing stuff for no apparent reasons
- Not taking care of myself
- Not saying yes because it’s safer to say no
- Not talking when I have something to say
- Not caring when it kills me inside
- Not crying when I’m sad
- Not smiling when I’m happy
- Not volunteering because it’s too much hassle
I already started by buying myself a bike, even if it wasn’t my turn to get something and we have better things to do with money.
Ok, I’m switching things up a lot. But it’ll be worth it you’ll see.

YES! YES! YES! YES! Oh wait, this isn’t Whall commenting on his love for a band that Sheila has never heard of! This is The Real Sorta Slim Sheila, standing up to say “YES!” Someone finally really got the frickin’ point! We can’t always put ourselves last – sometimes we have to put ourselves first or we won’t be running at the full capacity of awesome that we need to be for everyone else. Always denying yourself things for the sake of others is a piss poor way to live. Who the heck wants to be a martyr, giving up anything and everything we would like to do, see, own, etc? Sure – everyone else may be happy but you’ll be miserable, even if you don’t fully realize the miserableness. Not cool man.
So here’s to lots of love, laughter and putting ourselves first once in a while! Besides, it’d be nice if *you* were the one crying every once in a while.
xoxo
P.S. At least, this is what *I* got out of the post. But, then again, I haven’t talked to you in the last seventy-two hours (maybe my math is a little off here) so maybe I don’t know you as well as I once did. We’re drifting apart man! LOL
