In hindsight: That was one Hell of a week

All right, I had something planned for today, and it’s now Sunday night 20:22 and I have not started to write about it. I sorta feel I need  a little more time, so I’ll go with something else that might be a little less profound but a lot easier to write about. Others are doing profound anyways. ;-)

The seventh season of 24 started Sunday night

Did I ever mention how much I hate 24? I think I might have. Anyways, I like Keifer, but I can’t stand the show format. It was fine the first season, even the second one, but seriously, seven times (eight if you factor in the "Redemption" TV movie) is more than enough.

I find the acting in 24 laughable, the sets cardboard quality, the camera work shaky, the music disturbing. The “split screen” trick was nice at first, but now it’s been overdone. The storyline is formulaic – it’s what some people find attractive about the show – and you know that it’ll end on a good note. If not, don’t worry, it’ll be fixed during the next season. Even dead guys can come back, but that’s not only this series’ prerogative, it’s been done before and it will be done again I’m sure.

The worst thing about 24 is that LovelyWife absolutely loves that show. Which means that I’m watching by proxy whether I like or or not.

Since I’m a really nice guy, I put the rest of my 24 talk behind the cut. If you’re like me and hate that show, you probably don’t need to read the rest of this entry.

Jack Bauer dies.

This even takes place
between the hours of 10:00 a.m and 11:00 a.m

Oops, did I wrote that in big bold letters and now you can’t unsee it? Awwwwwwww.

Now can I have my TV back please?

Edit: One good thing about 24 are the incredibly awesome Watchmen commercials. Sweeeeet! I think I’ll read the graphic novels one more time now. You can have the TV a little bit longer.

In other news

I’m leaving on a jetplane, but I know when I’ll be back again. ;-)

As some of you might have heard from my constant Tweeting or by dropping by here ever so often, I will be in Africa from January 22nd to February 1st.  Instead of pre-canning a whole lotta posts before I leave and letting you experience stuff that has nothing with curernt events, I’m throwing this out there:

Would you consider guest-posting here?

I know I’m not an A-list blogger or anything, and you will most likely not see an increase in your readership because you post here, but it might be a fun thing to do! I have 9 available days, from Jan 23 to Jan 31 included. I’m coming back on Feb 1st, but I already have a post canned for that day.

Anyways, email me at lesombre at gmail dot com if interested. ;-)

Well, at least you’re sweet enough to give up the tv for your LovelyWife! :)

Most of the guys in my family pretend like they’re so engrossed in ESPN that they can’t hear their wives screaming for the remote because Grey’s Anatomy is coming on, haha.

I’ve never really gotten what the big deal was about “24″ and “Pushing Daisies” and a few others. But hey – we all like what we like, so have at it if that’s your thing!

I mostly watch tv to judge the commercials, anyway.

Including when it’s one of MY shows that are on.

Yeah – I’m kind of weird. Oh well, c’est la vi! :)

Mike and I got sucked into 24 one weekend in 2003 when a friend of ours loaned us her dvd copy of the first season. We watched it all in one weekend, practically never leaving the bed. It was actually kind of fun. We’ve watched every season since, but haven’t really enjoyed the last few seasons that much. And, since we’ve cancelled our cable as of Feb. 1, we didn’t bother watching last night…

Nice of you to watch what LovelyWife wants to watch though :) I usually just leave the room if Mike’s watching something I don’t want to see…

  3. Some of my family is so consumed by 24 that it makes me cringe. My cousin’s five year old son would only reply to “Jack Bauer” for a time – not his real name. Then, he decided to name their new dog that so now he (the boy) is back to his real name.

    I think it’s stupid.

I love 24. It’s a very fun show. Especially if you mock it, MST3K style.

The first season was outstanding, though.

I could probably do a guest post for you during that week – just let me know if you need me to.

@Amber: I would give up anything for LovelyWife. Plus then I can bug her about all the lameness of the show. ;-)

@Suze: Well, I just flip the laptop open, and that makes me pretty much “leave the room” too. Except I can still hear some of the funny lines from time to time. ;-)

@SheilaCSR: Kinda like a reverse Indiana Jones.

@Avitable: I agree that the first season was outstanding (innovative, good, fresh, etc.). Yay for guest-posting!

  6. Bugger, they’re up to seven seasons now? 24 was always one of those shows I’d been meaning to try out but never did. Some people I work with watch it and say it has really gone down hill. So I think the chances of me ever watching it at this point are slim to none.

@Kevin Spencer: IMHO, you’re not missing much. I would watch the first season if I were you, and leave it at that.
